An anchor light is used to illuminate the boat so that it is visible to other boats approaching the anchorage. Masthead lights get lost in shore clutter, or stars, and are not obvious to boats manoeuvring at close quarters. A good anchor light illuminates some portion of the rigging and decks and is significantly more effective in making the boats location and attitude clear than a masthead light. A good anchor light is independent of the boats electrical supply; there is no danger of it flattening the ships batteries and there is no electrical cord to be run.

This is the ultimate in cruising anchor lights:

• Comes on at dusk and off at dawn, automatically.
• Has an off switch to override the automatic feature.
• Takes a standard 6v lantern battery. (Not included, but readily available at £5 or less)

Automatic anchor and general utility light, 12v - runs off the boat’s batteries.

An alternative to our battery operated 6v automatic anchor light is this 12v automatic anchor and utility light which runs off the boat’s battery bank via a 5m cable and cigar lighter plug.

It automatically switches on at dusk and off at dawn to conserve power.

A low energy (0.1 amps) long life bulb is housed in a highly efficient Fresnel lens giving 2 nm visibility. A second, higher output (0.24 amps) bulb is provided if greater light intensity is required. It has fully encapsulated electrical circuits for durability and weather proofing.

The base of the Fresnel lens is clear to provide area lighting and for use as a torch. A hanging bracket is included.
