Rigging tension gauges by Loos & Co. Inc.Take the guess work out of tuning your rigging: Loose rigging reduces sailing performance and puts damaging shock loads on the rigging and hull; excessively tight rigging strains the hull and the rig components. Loos tension gauges provide the basis for accurate and repeatable tuning of boat standing rigging. The gauges are simple to use and ruggedly constructed to provide years of service. The Loos Professional model gauges can be left on the wire for hands-free adjustment of the cable tension and are more accurate than the Standard model. The Professional model is accurate to 3% at mid-range whilst the Standard model is accurate to 5% at mid-range. The scale reading can be converted to the actual tension in kilograms by reference to the calibration table attached to the gauge body. Most leading sailmakers give rig tuning advice when supplying sails for one design classes, to ensure that the sail shape is as designed. The almost universal guide is the Loos Model A or B gauge. The Professional models include a conversion chart so that sailors can enjoy the convenience and accuracy of the Professional model whilst using these Standard gauge settings.
