Operation: The Tiller Trimmer’s operation is based on a fully tested principle: A control line secured at port and starboard is fed via a feed-in pulley through a friction brake at the tiller. The brake is adjustable so that the tiller can be locked in any position, or it can be trimmed to allow a selected degree of movement, or it can be fully free. When sailing, tension applied by the Tiller Trimmer keeps the helm under control, preventing the tiller from moving until effort is applied. This frees you to move around the boat, tending to sail trim and other activities. You need only nudge the tiller from time to time, making minor corrections. When motoring, propeller wash tends to push the rudder fully over if the tiller is let go, making it impossible to leave the helm to stow sails or prepare mooring lines. The Tiller Trimmer frees you from the helm by locking the rudder on course. The Tiller Trimmer doesn’t intrude on cockpit space because the control lines leave the tiller at 45 degrees, back towards the stern. This also avoids any possible interference with an auto-pilot.
